Canadian Athlete of the Month

Posted on Monday, September 14th, 2009

Our very own Katie Reid is Canada’s female youth athlete of the month. Katie, 15, won gold at the Canadian Youth Championships in the 400-metre sprint, setting a personal best of 54.90. Then, while competing against athletes a year older than her at the World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy, she finished 12th of 43 athletes, eliminated in the semifinals. Coached by Nick Stoffberg and competing for Ocean Athletics, the B.C. High School champion won 400-metre bronze at the Canada Summer Games against athletes seven years her senior.

Congratulations Katie!

Good luck to our senior volleyball teams at Fraser Valley Championships this week. Both boys and girls teams are competing for a spot in this year’s Provincials. Earl Marriott is co-hosting the Fraser Valleys for the boys draw and the team is seeded #2 in the tournament. It will be a challenge to work through the draw as teams are very strong within the Fraser Valley. The team is peaking at the right time and expects to do very well throughout this weekend.

1000 Cranes

Posted on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

The students in both Ms. Peters and Ms. Davis’s ESL classes folded 1000 cranes for Ms. Davis’s sister Janine who recently found out that she has breast cancer. It is a belief in many Asian countries that if you make 1,000 cranes you will be cured. It is a grand gesture, one that is in line with our school goal of social responsibility. We are very proud of the students and their committment to helping others. The story was featured in the November 27th edition of the Surrey Now Newspaper. Well done Mariners.

The second, top 10 questions from our Athletic Council Co-President and Sr. Girls Volleyball Co-Captain. These articles are great in showcasing EMS in a positive light. Enjoy!
